This year, AHEPA reaffirmed our commitment to public service by participating
in the White Houses United We Serve campaign. AHEPA chapters nationwide are
rolling up their sleeves, participating in canned food drives, helping out in
soup kitchens, delivering food through meals on wheels programs and raising
money to feed the hungry in our cities and neighborhoods.
AHEPA Merrillville Chapter 78 has answered this call to commit themselves to the United We Serve campaign. On this page you will see all the various programs and activites that the AHEPA Chapter 78 members have been supporting this year. We commend all the the brothers who have answered the call to serve thier community.

AHEPA CHAPTER 78 UNITED WE SERVE INITIATIVE VISITS AMERICAN RED CROSS
ON MAY 12, MEMBERS OF THE AMERICAN HELLENIC EDUCATIONAL AND
PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION VISITED THE AMERICAN RED CROSS FACILITY IN
MERRILLVILLE. FOLLOWING A TOUR OF THE FACILITY, GORDON JOHNSON, C.E.O. OF THE
RED CROSS EXPLAINED IN DETAIL THE VARIOUS PROGRAMS AND ASSISTANCE OFFERED BY
THEIR ORGANIZATION. AS PART OF THEIR UNITED WE SERVE INITIATIVE AHEPA PRESENTED
MR JOHNSON WITH A $1500 DONATION THAT WILL BE USED TO ASSIST LOCAL DISASTER

Also, Chapter 78 brothers prepared
Thanksgiving meals for 40 Senior Citizens. AHEPA Chapter 78 donated and prepared
9 (20lb) turkeys and 3 (20lb) boneless hams with all the traditional trimmings
including pumpkin pies.

and making $1,500 dollar donation.
AHEPA Chapter 78 United We Serve supporting Ross Township food pantry
On Thursday May 10, Brothers from Ahepa 78 joined together in fellowship for 4 hours to
unload & sort and store 3 truckloads of donated goods collected by the
MERRILLVILLE P.O. Branch in all areas that they service. There were 4635 lbs of
supplies collected to feed the needy in Ross Township. This pantry distributes
food to 300 families monthly, and 16,000 people were served in 2009. Ahepan's
who volunteered included Joe Skora, John Demetrakis, Nick Tournis, Jeff Hartz,
Jim Sadler, Theo Koulianos, Andy Paramantgis, and Nick Gianikos
AHEPA Chapter 78 supports various United WE Serve projects. Veteran life
changing services, Ross Township food pantry, and much much more.
AHEPA Chapter 78 meeting on 12/2/2009 had guest
speakers from Christian Haven House, Meals on Wheels, Ross Township food pantry,
and the Salvation Army. AHEPA Chapter 78 proudly was able to make monetary
donations to these various charitable organizations. Some pictures from

TO PROMOTING EDUCATION
On June 7, members of Ahepa Chapter 78 visited the Merrillville Boys &
Girls Club & were greeted by Director Marcus Martin & other staff
members. Following a tour & discussion they entered the gymnasium where 60
boys and girls had gathered . Each Ahepan introduced himself to the group &
spoke briefly on the importance of their continuing education &
participation with the club. Ahepa presented the Merrillville Club with a $1500 donation designated for
use in their educational program and promised them we will be back again. Shown
