Message from the Office of the Governor of District #12

Greeting AHEPA brothers,

Another Supreme convention has completed and it is my pleasure to report that the convention in Montreal was an excellent convention where District #12 was well represented.

An argument can be made that District #12 was the star of the Supreme convention due to the following:

1) Gary/Merrillville Chapter #78 wins Chapter of the Year!

2) East Chicago/Calumet Chapter #157 wins 1st place in medium (51-100) chapter division for adding the most new members (21).

3) Brother Matt Kochevar of Chapter #78 is elected as Supreme Convention secretary and does a wonderful job

4) Brother Telli Panousis of Chapter #157 gets recognized and awarded outstanding Hellenic golfer. Telli won the National Golf tournament earlier in the year.

5) Brother Nick Kavadas of Chapter #78 is elected as Chairman of the district governors standing committee.

6) Brother Tom Gober (PSG) of Chapter #157 is chairman of the resolutions committee. Brother Nick Kavadas of Chapter #78 was also on the committee. Both brothers submitted a resolution to have AHEPA National recognize and reward Chapters and/or Districts for making best use of technology like websites and social media. Resolution passed unanimously when brought to the convention floor.

7) Brothers from Chapters #78, #157, #123, #232, and #100 all served on committees ranging from the Athletic committee to legislature committee. All the brothers from District #12 made themselves heard and represented the district very well. Thank you brothers! Keep up the good work.

8) Brother Nick Gianikos of Chapter #78 was runner-up for National AHEPAN of the year. The vote was very close and Brother Nick came very very close to being selected. Brother Nick will always be a winner in the district eyes for his dedication and leadership of the United We Serve program was exceptional and let there be no doubt that Chapter #78 winning the chapter of the year is a direct result of Brother Nicks leadership.

9) Indianapolis Chapter #232 did some awesome marketing and I believe has made a strong case to be selected to host the 2012 Supreme convention. The district WILL support the Indianapolis chapter with all its resources to make this a reality.

10) And finally, the word did spread around that the Daughters of Penelope from the South Bend area (DOP Chapter 60) were awarded a senior housing project from AHEPA National housing via the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Congratulations Daughters and Mrs. Angela Magrames (Grand Governor Zone III) who provided the exceptional leadership to get this 50 unit housing complex awarded to South Bend area.

I am very proud that District #12 was so well represented at the convention. Lots of hard work was done at the convention by many district brothers and its was a huge honor to see my home chapter #78 be awarded chapter of the year.

The district also would like to thank Brother Tom Gober of Calumet chapter #157 for doing a great job as Supreme Governor for region 6. Tom has met his term limits as supreme governor and we are very confident he will take on a new role at the National level next year. Tom did a wonderful job representing not only district #12 but also district #13 and #14. He also played a significant role to make the Midwest regional banquet a success.

Also, I was very happy to observe at the Supreme convention that district #12 must have had the lowest average age of delegates attending. I see a strong commitment from District #12 making sure our younger members are involved at all levels of the AHEPA structure. It is vitally important for AHEPA to make sure that our younger members start to play larger roles and learn from the more mature members of the organization who have done so very well to pave the roads and provide the opportunities available to all of us today. The younger members MUST respect and appreciate the AHEPAns that came before us and it will be up to our younger member to continue the good work and allow future generations of AHEPAns to have the same opportunities and make sure AHEPA is forever strong.

I plan to use this space to provide monthly “blog” updates from my office of Governor so please come visit this page often for updates, special messages, pictures, and much much more. In addition, I always post pictures on our district #12 Face book page before I add them to the website so I encourage everyone to join Face book (its free) and become a fan of district #12 where not only can you see the latest pictures of what is going on in the district but allows for real time communication with all brothers and sisters of the AHEPA domain.

Fraternally,

Nick J. Kavadas
